Maryland’s Travel Advantage Network Acquires Old-World Resort On Hawaii’s “Friendly Island”
MILLERSVILLE, MD February 13, 2004–-Maryland-based Travel Advantage Network (TAN), which provides wholesale-priced condominium vacations to more than 43,000 families and individuals worldwide, announces the addition of Hawaii’s oceanfront Hotel Moloka’i to its expanding roster of popular vacation destinations throughout the U.S., Mexico, and the Caribbean.
Settlement for the Moloka’i resort occurred yesterday, February 10, 2004. As part of its transition strategy, TAN has a three-year plan to upgrade electrical, roofing, building exteriors, and guest rooms. “The Hotel is in great shape and is lovely as is, but we want to bring it up to TAN’s standards of excellence. We’re anticipating the total renovation costs and expenses associated with taking over the property to be about $270,000 over the next three years,” explains David Dawson, who heads TAN’s property management/acquisition efforts.
Grand re-opening of Hotel Moloka’i is tentatively scheduled for March 1, 2004. Adds Dawson, “We are honoring the nearly $150,000 in reservations made by vacationers prior to the change in ownership, so we’ll be working around the property as quietly as possible so as not to disturb travelers. Once we’re ready for the official re-opening, TAN will host a full kick-off party at the Hotel. Stay tuned for details.”
“Although TAN offers condominium accommodations at more than 115 properties, Hotel Moloka’i is actually our second whole-resort purchase. In January 2003, we bought Sandbars, a wonderful Cape Cod resort,” says Brad Callahan, TAN’s founder, president and CEO, “With the Hotel Moloka’i, we were drawn by the island’s old-Hawaii feel, versus the hustle and bustle of more developed islands. Native Hawaiians call Moloka’i the Friendly Isle because of its serenity, secluded beaches and relaxed atmosphere.”
